Burn out is like a slow leak, that’s why it’s so dangerous
Burn-out is like a slow leak. It’s easy to ignore and that’s what makes it so dangerous.
Our energy drains out every day like a slow drip, not in big massive events or traumas (hopefully) but rather it’s an ongoing pouring out of tasks, taking care of others, tackling to-do lists and chasing our dreams.
No big deal! We’ve got this…right?
But the truth is, we’ve only got it down if we’re balancing the equation of output AND input.
Unfortunately, for most of us (me included), it’s all too easy to shove taking care of ourselves everyday to the bottom of our to do list.
So the leak continues, and we think “No big deal,” until one day we wake up and feel overwhelmed, on edge, drained, unable to chase our dreams or enjoy our job or give to the people who matter most to us.
This point is called the burn-out wake up call!
It’s a cross roads. You can choose to start filling up your tank again, OR serious, long term damage and illness start to appear.
Learning how to fill your cup in small ways every day has a much bigger impact than one big holiday away (as wonderful as that is).
Tips to Prevent Burn-out:
- Have at least one, non-negotiable early rejuvenation night every week where you give back to yourself.
- Download a short, relaxing meditation that you can easily plug into at any time in the day and recharge.
- Regularly review what you’re giving your energy to that really isn’t worthwhile and make a strategy to eliminate it. Setting boundaries and saying no is one of the most powerful ways we can take care of ourselves.
Living in a way that prevents you from burning out is at the core of my upcoming 10 week course, and I can’t wait to dive in and re-inspire a way of living that keeps us thriving and loving life!
